'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.

Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC explained materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his worries.

She said the man went on to play the "sweet game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.

She stated the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five children.
